The Subroto Cup campaigns for Assam and Meghalaya got off to a flying start in New Delhi, sending a clear message to the rest of the competition. Teams from our North East states put on a real show, with Assam delivering a stunning 11-goal thrashing and Meghalaya securing a confident win.
It was a day that truly made the region proud, highlighting the incredible football talent we have.
Assam’s Goal Fest Steals the Show
The biggest story of the day undoubtedly came from Betkuchi High School of Assam. They were simply unstoppable, crushing PM Shri Govt. Mahatma Gandhi Sr. Sec. School from Andrott, Lakshadweep, with an unbelievable 11-0 scoreline.
The goals came from everywhere. Mari, Milina, Sayasree, Muskan, and Divia all found the back of the net in a completely one-sided match. This performance wasn’t just a win; it was a powerful statement of intent from the Assam girls.
Meghalaya’s Clinical Win Marks a Strong Start
Meanwhile, Meghalaya also brought their A-game to the pitch. Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School faced a challenge from Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Chandigarh, but handled it with style, sealing a comfortable 3-0 victory.
Jasmine, Mangu, and Rimika were the heroes for Meghalaya, with each scoring a goal to ensure a convincing and crucial three points. It was a disciplined and clinical performance that puts them in a great position in the tournament.
Sikkim and Tripura Battle to Hard-Fought Draws
The other North East teams also showed their fighting spirit. Sikkim’s PM Shri Tashi Namgyal Sr. Sec. School played out a thrilling 1-1 draw against their opponents from Jharkhand. Lepcha gave Sikkim the lead just after halftime, but a late equaliser meant the points were shared.
Tripura Sports School also earned a valuable point in their 1-1 draw with Bihar’s Upgraded High School. Jashika put Tripura ahead early in the game, showcasing their readiness from the first whistle. While Bihar managed to level the score, it was a solid start for the Tripura side.
With two dominant wins and two hard-earned draws, the North East teams have firmly made their mark on the Subroto Cup. All eyes will now be on our girls to see if they can carry this incredible momentum deeper into the tournament.
