The Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA), in collaboration with the NE Sports Foundation, organized a special Sports Science Workshop for the Under-23 Senior Men and Women Wrestling Team at the SAA Conference Hall, Chimpu. The initiative was held ahead of the upcoming Under-23 Senior Free Style, Greco Roman Style, and Women’s National Wrestling Championship-2025, scheduled in Jharkhand from August 22 to 24.
The workshop focused on strengthening the athletes’ mental and physical readiness, ensuring they enter the national arena with holistic preparation. Nutritionist Dr. Yombom Bam delivered a session on “Safe vs. Unsafe Practices for Diet and Weight Control,” highlighting how improper weight-cutting methods can harm both health and performance. He stressed the importance of balanced nutrition, hydration, and scientifically backed diet plans for wrestlers.
Complementing this, Sports Psychologist Bamang Meha engaged the athletes in a session on coping strategies for performance anxiety, emphasizing techniques to build concentration, mental resilience, and confidence during high-pressure bouts. The session aimed at reducing stress and helping athletes focus on execution rather than fear of outcomes.
The event was graced by Shri Toko Tatung, MLA of Yachuli and President of the Wrestling Association of Arunachal; Shri John Neelam, Chairman of SAA; and Shri Gumnya Karbak, Director of SAA. The dignitaries not only encouraged the wrestlers but also reminded them of the deeper values that shape a champion. They spoke about the importance of self-belief, mental resilience, and staying committed to the process, even in the face of challenges. Urging the athletes to carry the pride of Arunachal Pradesh with them, they emphasized that while strength wins bouts, it is discipline, focus, and unwavering determination that win championships.
As a symbolic gesture of team spirit and readiness, the wrestlers were presented with their official track suits during the event. The dignitaries also expressed confidence that the athletes would bring laurels to the state and assured continued support for the growth of wrestling in Arunachal Pradesh.
The program concluded with the athletes expressing gratitude to SAA and NE Sports Foundation for introducing them to scientific methods of preparation. Many shared that the guidance had boosted their confidence and provided them with new tools to handle challenges, both on and off the mat.
With this unique blend of traditional training and scientific support, Team Arunachal enters the national championship well-prepared, carrying the hopes of the state.
