Arunachal Pradesh’s taekwondo athletes delivered an outstanding performance at the 9th Heroes Taekwondo International Championship 2026 held in Pattaya, Thailand, securing a total of 11 medals, including five gold, four silver and two bronze, against strong international competition.
The three-day championship began on a high note for the Arunachal contingent as Nabam Nani, Nikter Yati and Sianaimlu Kri clinched gold medals in the U-30 Girls category. Nabam Nani further added a silver medal to her tally, while Techi Ozum earned a silver medal in the Cadet Girls category.
On the second day, the state continued its impressive run in the Sub-Junior events. Taying Zirniya Tarh claimed gold in the U-24 kg Girls category, while Tana Ben won gold in the U-38 kg Boys category. Techi Shechum (U-22 kg Girls) and Techi Rujum (U-27 kg Girls) secured silver medals, while Rebecca Pill bagged a bronze medal in the U-47 kg Cadet Girls category.
The championship concluded with Tadar Kuku winning a bronze medal in the Senior Boys U-54 kg category, taking Arunachal Pradesh’s overall medal tally to 11 medals.
The medal winners included Nabam Nani, Nikter Yati, Sianaimlu Kri, Taying Zirniya Tarh and Tana Ben (Gold); Nabam Nani, Techi Ozum, Techi Shechum and Techi Rujum (Silver); and Rebecca Pill and Tadar Kuku (Bronze).
The Arunachal contingent was guided by Ranjit Biswakarma, coach from the Sports Authority of Arunachal, and Suraj Ali, coach from Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA). Borik Pamo served as the team manager for the Arunachal squad during the international championship.
The athletes displayed remarkable discipline, determination and technical excellence throughout the tournament, earning accolades with their performances against international competitors.
The Arunachal Taekwondo Association acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the athletes, coaches, team manager, officials and support staff for their commitment and hard work throughout the championship. The association also expressed its appreciation to parents, supporters and well-wishers for their continuous encouragement and unwavering support, noting that their collective contribution played a vital role in the team’s successful campaign at the international event.
