In a display of exceptional athleticism, Sikkim’s running contingent, led by the indefatigable Amar Subba, showcased their prowess at the Basar Running Ultra Trail Experience (BRUTE) 3.0 event in Arunachal Pradesh. The team’s outstanding achievements have not only brought glory to Sikkim but have also elevated their standing in the competitive field of trail running.

Amar Subba, hailed as the Marathon Man of Sikkim, secured an impressive 3rd place in the challenging 60 km category, highlighting his endurance and determination on the demanding Basar trails. The team’s success didn’t stop there, with Nimsang Limboo claiming the top spot in the 30 km category, firmly establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in the trail running circuit.

The podium finishes continued with Dhan Kumar Manger clinching the 3rd position in the fiercely contested 30 km category, closely followed by Shivahang Limboo, who secured the 5th place, showcasing the depth of talent in the Sikkimese running community.

Adding a touch of gender equality to the triumph, Renu Rana dominated the Women’s category, securing the 1st place with an impressive timing of 12 hours, further underlining the diversity and skill of Sikkim’s running contingent.

The BRUTE 3.0 event, certified by the International Trail Running Associations (ITRA) and UTMB, is a recognized and prestigious trail race powered by “Run Monks” and “RACETIME INDIA,” in collaboration with GRK, a local organization in Basar. It stands as one of the cornerstone events included in the ITRA National League 2023, further solidifying its importance in the trail running community.

The event not only serves as a platform for showcasing athletic prowess but also allows finishers to earn valuable ITRA points based on their race timings. These points open the door for runners to participate in World Championships events, proudly representing India on the global stage.

The success of Sikkim’s runners in the BRUTE 3.0 event not only celebrates individual achievements but also underscores the collective dedication and passion of the entire running community in the state. As Sikkim continues to make its mark in the world of trail running, the future looks promising for these athletes who exemplify the spirit of endurance, resilience, and sportsmanship.
