The All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) delivered an outstanding performance at the Indian Challenger Cup 2026, securing a remarkable haul of 88 medals, including 41 gold, 21 silver, and 26 bronze, at the championship held in Kolkata from 31st July to 2nd August, 2026.
A contingent of 73 karatekas represented Meghalaya at the national-level competition under the guidance of officials Donboklang Lyngdoh, Mingson Rymbai, Greater EM Kharpuri, and Pynhunlang Kharbuli.
The impressive medal tally highlighted the state’s growing strength in karate, with several athletes producing exceptional performances across kata and kumite events.
Among the standout performers was Jason Mcryan Malngiang, who claimed three gold medals in kumite, individual kata, and team kata, making him one of the tournament’s most successful competitors.
Five other karatekas also enjoyed multiple podium finishes. Dakitdorbha L Chyne, Elisheba Khongwar, Gideon Tympuin, Rebeka Nongspung, and Savio Bakynsai Majaw each won two gold medals and one silver medal, showcasing Meghalaya’s depth of talent.
In a statement, the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association expressed its gratitude to the Government of Meghalaya for extending financial support to the athletes as part of the team’s preparations for the 39th National Games 2027, which will be hosted by Meghalaya.
The association also congratulated all the medal winners and participants for representing the state with dedication and commitment, noting that the performances reflect the steady progress of karate in Meghalaya ahead of the National Games.
