The Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA) organized a flag-off ceremony with a unique twist for the state’s contingent participating in the 4th Sub-Junior Boys & Girls National Boxing Championship, scheduled to be held in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh from August 7 to 13, 2025.
In a refreshing departure from the traditional flag-off events, the SAA, in collaboration with NE Sports Foundation, hosted a Pre-Event Sports Psychology Workshop to mentally prepare the athletes. This initiative aimed at helping the young boxers manage nervousness, anxiety, and maintain focus and composure during their bouts at the national level.

The workshop was facilitated by Miss Bamang Meha and Miss Bindiya Ligu, experienced sports psychologists from the Itanagar-based NE Sports Foundation, a nonprofit working to promote and develop sports across the region.

Speaking at the event, Shri Gumnya Karbak, Director of SAA, extended his best wishes to the contingent. He emphasized that the performance of these young athletes serves as a gateway for the growth of sports in the state. He reiterated the benefits under the Arunachal State Sports Policy, including cash incentives for medal winners in recognized events and job reservations — 10% in the Police Department and 5% in other government departments for meritorious sportspersons.
“This is the first time a Pre-Event Psychology Workshop has been conducted for athletes heading to a national-level event,” said Karbak. “Such sports science support plays a critical role in an athlete’s development, and we plan to continue this for future participants in zonal, national, and international tournaments.”
He further urged the athletes to maintain discipline and reminded them that both the government and the Arunachal Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) are fully committed to supporting their growth and success.
As a mark of encouragement, all 17 athletes were felicitated with official Arunachal team tracksuits in the presence of executive members of AABA.
