The Food Corporation of India (FCI), North-East Zone, has launched a stipend program for the year 2025-26 aimed at recognizing and supporting talented young sportspersons across various disciplines. A total of 24 players will be selected for this initiative by the Zonal Sports Promotion Committee (ZSPC).
The disciplines covered under the scheme include Football, Hockey, Table Tennis, Badminton, Swimming, Archery, Boxing, and Weightlifting. This program targets school and college students, as well as other young athletes, providing them with financial assistance to encourage their pursuit of excellence in sports.
Key Details
- Number of Positions: 24 stipend holders across 11 sports disciplines.
- Eligibility: Athletes aged 15-24 years, with additional criteria based on participation and rankings in national or international tournaments.
- Stipend Amount:
- ₹20,000 per month for premier-level athletes (18-24 years) representing India.
- ₹16,000 per month for junior-level athletes (15-18 years) excelling at national levels.
- Elite stipends of ₹15,000 and ₹12,000 per month for state and university-level participants.
Application Process
Applications are open until February 7, 2025. Forms can be downloaded from the FCI website or collected from the ZSPC office in Guwahati. The application envelope should be clearly marked with the specific sports discipline being applied for.
The selection process will involve an evaluation of certificates from the past three years, and candidates may be required to participate in field trials. Special consideration will be given to candidates from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in case of ties.
This initiative is part of FCI’s ongoing efforts to nurture sporting talent in the country and align with the government’s Khelo India program to boost grassroots sports development.
