The 16th National Junior Roll Ball Championship, held from January 8-11 in Kurnool, saw Assam’s “Mulagabhru” team rise to the top, clinching the championship title in a spectacular display of talent and teamwork.
In a thrilling final, Assam’s women’s team triumphed over Rajasthan with a 4-2 victory, securing the coveted title. The goals came from Miska, Kristi, Namrata, and Shrinika, who were instrumental in overcoming their determined opponents. Rajasthan, though defeated, earned second place, while Maharashtra rounded out the top three with a third-place finish.
The victory was a culmination of a series of impressive performances from Assam’s women’s team. After a solid start in the league stage, where they won against Kerala 3-0 and Chhattisgarh 2-1, the team faced a setback with a 2-0 loss to Gujarat. However, undeterred, they bounced back in the quarter-finals, crushing Tamil Nadu 5-0. In the semi-finals, Assam delivered a dominant 8-1 performance against Uttar Pradesh to secure their spot in the final.
On the men’s side, Assam’s team had a mixed run, ultimately being eliminated in the league stage. The team won against Karnataka and Haryana, but losses to Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu saw them fall short of advancing further in the competition.
In the boy’s category, Rajasthan emerged as the champions, followed by Tamil Nadu in second and Gujarat in third.
The championship, held at Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, brought together the best junior roll ball talent from across the nation, showcasing the growing popularity and skill level in the sport. Assam’s remarkable achievement in both the men’s and women’s categories has solidified its place as a rising force in junior roll ball.
