National Unity Day, celebrated on the birth anniversary of the ‘Iron Man of India,’ Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, is a day when the entire nation comes together to celebrate unity and diversity. It is a time to reinforce the bonds that tie us as one nation, irrespective of our diverse cultures and backgrounds. On this auspicious day, the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) and the State Sports Academy Miao of Arunachal Pradesh organized events that not only celebrated the spirit of unity but also promoted the significance of sports in fostering camaraderie and a sense of belonging.
Marathon Race at Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy:
One of the main highlights of the day was the Marathon Race organized by the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy. The event took place from the SLSA Ground to the Hollongi Checkgate and back to the SLSA. The marathon was not only a physical test but also a symbol of the endurance and unity that sport can inspire.
In the Boy’s Category, the winners of the race showcased incredible determination and skill. The top three winners, Tarh Talar, Ngomchung Dajangju, and Khongkang, were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000, and Rs. 2,000, respectively. The spirit of sportsmanship extended beyond the podium, with consolation prizes of Rs. 1,000 each awarded to the 4th, 5th, and 6th position holders: Tama Tarak, Taja Yorpen, and Tarang Sangbia.
The Girls Category witnessed a display of remarkable talent as well. The top three winners, Kesang Cherong, Pji Pul, and Yaneoti Mangkeng, were awarded Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000, and Rs. 1,000, respectively. Similar to the Boys Category, the 4th, 5th, and 6th position holders, Yani Eru, Tunu Gamlin, and Kubila Yun, received consolation prizes of Rs. 1,000 each.
The distribution of the cash prizes was an exciting moment as Shri Likha Vida, Principal of SLSA, and Shri Harman Singh, High-Performance Manager of Khelo India State Centre of Excellence at SLSA, had the honor of felicitating the talented winners. Their presence, along with the enthusiastic support of the teachers, coaches, and sports science staff, added a special touch to the event.
Unity Run at State Sports Academy Miao:
Simultaneously, at the State Sports Academy Miao, a Unity Run was organized. The run commenced from the Academy and concluded at the General Ground in Miao. This run served as a reminder that unity and sports go hand in hand. The participants not only celebrated the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel but also reiterated the importance of coming together as a nation, regardless of individual differences.
The events at both Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy and State Sports Academy Miao emphasized the significant role of sports in nurturing unity, teamwork, and national pride. They demonstrated that through sports, individuals from diverse backgrounds can come together, compete, and celebrate together.

National Unity Day is a time to reflect on the values of unity and diversity that underpin the foundations of our nation. The efforts of SLSA and State Sports Academy Miao, through their sports events, showcased how unity can be celebrated and fostered, not just on this day, but throughout the year, through the power of sports. It is a testament to the idea that together we are stronger, and together we can achieve remarkable feats, just like the winners of the Marathon Race and the participants in the Unity Run did on this special day.
