In today’s championship match of the 1st NECDC Interstate Senior Men’s Friendship Competition, Nagaland will compete versus Manipur . Due to rain, the highly anticipated semi-final game between Nagaland and Meghalaya on Sunday had to be postponed. As a result, Nagaland, who finished first in Group 2, advanced to the finals where they faced off against Manipur for the first NECDC Interstate Senior Men’s Friendship Tournament crown.
Previously, Nagaland chose to field first after winning the toss and sent the Meghalaya team up to bat. The bowlers were able to check and contain the opening batters for Meghalaya, which allowed them to cheaply dismiss Raj Biswa, Arien Bonchang, and Wallambok Nongkhlaw for one run each, six runs, and zero runs, respectively, showing that everything was going according to plan for team Nagaland.
The innings for their team were balanced by the 22 runs scored by Kishan Lyngdoh and the 24 runs scored by Kevin. Hopongkyu Sangtam, Nagaho Chishi, and Imliwati shared two wickets each, and Tahmeed Rahman grabbed one wicket to give the Nagaland bowlers a solid start with the ball. Yet when the game was shortened to 38 overs per side, Jaskirat’s 43 runs and Akash’s 45 runs helped Meghalaya to a large total of 168 runs on the scoreboard while losing nine wickets.
With Hem Bahadur Chetri batting on six runs and Yugandhar Singh batting on fifteen runs and 23 runs on the board in 9.1 overs without losing a wicket, Nagaland’s run chase was halted by rain.
At noon, Nagaland and Manipur will play their final game at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium. Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Nagaland and Convenor of NECDC, will be a special guest at the finals and the award ceremony.
Also, the Nagaland Cricket Association has extended an invitation to all sports enthusiasts and supporters to attend the finals at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium. Public access will be through Gate No. 2.
