Arunachal Pradesh Wushu players have brought glory to India by securing remarkable medals in the prestigious Moscow Star Wushu Championship 2023, held in Russia from May 3rd to 8th. The Indian girls’ team, consisting of participants from the Khelo India Women’s leagues held throughout the year, displayed exceptional skill and determination, earning a total of 10 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals across various categories in both Sanda (Fight) and Taolu events.

The achievements of the Indian girls were outstanding, with each medal contributing to their success. Mercy Ngaimong, an accomplished wushu player from Arunachal Pradesh, secured a silver medal in the Senior Girls category. Additionally, Mepung Lamu won a bronze medal in the Senior Girls category of the Taolu event, while Neyman Wangsu clinched another bronze medal in the Senior Girls category for Sanda. Onilu Tega showcased her prowess by winning the gold medal in the 48 Kg Senior Girls Sanda category, adding to India’s impressive medal tally.

Recognizing the extraordinary accomplishments of these talented athletes, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) organized a felicitation ceremony. Deputy Director Generals of SAI, Ekta Vishnoi and Shiv Sharma, bestowed honor upon the medal winners, commending their exceptional performances at the Moscow Wushu Stars Championship.

Pooja Kadian, a revered Wushu athlete and one of the coaches of the Indian Wushu team, expressed her delight and gratitude towards the Government for sponsoring the trip. She highlighted the significance of this opportunity for the athletes, emphasizing that in previous years, they had to bear the expenses themselves. Pooja, who herself achieved the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2018 and became the first woman gold medalist in the Wushu World Championships (2017), emphasized the importance of platforms like Khelo India in uplifting women in sports. She encouraged more girls to participate and seize the chance to perform on the highest stage.

The remarkable performance of the Arunachal Pradesh Wushu players in the Moscow Star Wushu Championship 2023 serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes across India. Their achievements highlight the talent, dedication, and potential that exist within the country’s sporting landscape. As the Indian Wushu team prepares for future competitions, including the Asian Games, these outstanding athletes will play a crucial role in representing the nation and aiming for further success.
