Assam’s Amlan Borgohain: The Rising Sprinting Star with a Golden Streak
On June 19, Amlan Borgohain, a talented athlete from Assam, achieved a remarkable feat by winning a gold medal in the men’s 200m event during the National Senior Athletics Championships held in Bhubaneshwar. Borgohain’s exceptional performance led to a victory as he clocked an impressive time of 20.71 seconds. Although he secured the gold medal, Borgohain narrowly missed surpassing the Asian Games standard of 20.61 seconds.
Earlier in April this year, Borgohain had already brought great honor to his home state with an outstanding display of skill at the third Indian Grand Prix in Bengaluru. During this event, he excelled in both the men’s 100-meter and 200-meter races, clinching gold medals in both categories. His remarkable timing of 10.50 seconds for the 100-meter race and 21.22 seconds for the 200-meter race further highlighted his extraordinary abilities.
In addition to his recent achievements, Borgohain had made headlines in August of the previous year when he became India’s fastest man at the All India Inter Railways Athletics Championships in Raebareli. Hailing from the village of Meleng in Assam’s Jorhat district, the 23-year-old sprinter showcased his exceptional talent by completing the 100-meter race in an astonishing time of 10.25 seconds. This record-breaking performance allowed him to surpass Amiya Mallick’s national record time of 10.26 seconds, which had been set in 2016. Prior to this feat, Borgohain’s personal best time stood at 10.34 seconds, achieved the previous year.
