Originally known as the Chief Minister Trophy for Football and Volleyball, the tournament was first introduced in 2013 by the then Chief Minister, Shri Nabam Tuki. It was initially structured with three levels: block, district, and state. However, in 2016, the tournament underwent a significant transformation and was renamed the “Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy on Football & Volleyball (Men & Women)” by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu. This change aimed to honor the late Lt. Havildar Hangpan Dada, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation on May 26th, 2016. Lt. Havildar Hangpan Dada courageously neutralized three terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.

The tournament, exclusively for under-16 boys and girls, seeks to nurture young talent and provide them with a platform to showcase their abilities. With the tournament divided into three stages, starting from the Constituency Level, progressing to the District Level, and culminating in the State Level, participants have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and compete against the best in the state.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners and runners-up in both football and volleyball at each level of the tournament. At the constituency level, winners in football and volleyball for both boys and girls will receive ₹12,000 each, while the runners-up will be awarded ₹6,000 each. Additionally, a cash prize of ₹3,000 each will be presented to the best player in both football and volleyball categories.

Moving on to the state level, the stakes are higher as significant cash prizes await the victors. The winners in football for both boys and girls will be awarded ₹3.00 lakhs each, while the runners-up will receive ₹2.00 lakhs each. Similarly, the winners and runners-up in volleyball will be presented with ₹2.00 lakhs and ₹1.00 lakhs, respectively. The best player in both football and volleyball at the state level will receive ₹10,000 each.

The Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy serves as a testament to the commitment and sacrifice made by Lt. Havildar Hangpan Dada. By combining the passion for sports with the spirit of remembrance, the tournament unites communities and inspires the younger generation to excel in their chosen fields.

Sports enthusiasts and supporters alike eagerly anticipate the 6th  Edition Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy, where Arunachal Pradesh’s brightest young talents will compete fiercely for glory. For more information and update follow the official FB page of the tournament here
