The Meghalaya State League 2023 witnessed a thrilling conclusion to this week’s action, as football enthusiasts were treated to a series of astonishing matches. In today’s highlight of MSL 2023, the remarkable comebacks by both Mawlai and Ladthadlaboh, who secured victories despite initially falling behind in their respective fixtures in Shillong and Jowai.

In the first encounter, Khliehmawlieh Youth Club locked horns with Chipakkore in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Chandmari Ground in Tura. Rymbai Iawpynsing took the lead twice, courtesy of a penalty conversion by Heismiki Rymbai in the second minute and another goal by Heismiki in the 79th minute. After a period of confusion involving a handball incident, Ladthadlaboh equalized in the 27th minute through Teibokmi Lyngdoh. The game witnessed a total of three penalties, all of which went unconverted. Just as it seemed the match would end in a draw, Thinkwell Bareh of Ladthadlaboh netted a magnificent goal in the 88th minute from a corner kick, sealing a thrilling 3-2 victory.

Ladthadlaboh’s incredible comeback propelled them to join Rangdajied United with 7 points each in Group B, although Rangdajied United currently holds a superior goal difference of +8 compared to Ladthadlaboh’s +6.

Group D witnessed an intense encounter between Chipakkore and Khliehmawlieh. Both teams fought relentlessly for three points, demonstrating their determination on the field. The match hinged on a single mistake, as a Chipakkore defender misjudged a through ball intended for his goalkeeper. Arunachal to Host 5th Junior Boys National Championship 2023

The Arunachal Amateur Boxing Association (AABA), under the aegis of the Boxing Federation of India, will be hosting the 5th Junior Boys National Boxing Championship 2023 from 8th to 14th July at Don Bosco College, Jullang, Itanagar. Mr. Teli Kahi, who is the General Secretary of AABA and also the Organizing Secretary, has informed that 37 states of India, including the Service Sports Control Board and National Technical Officials, are expected to participate in this event, with a total of 666 participants. The winners of this championship will directly qualify for the upcoming Junior World Boxing Championship and Asian Boxing Championship.

The organizers will provide free lodging and boarding to all boxers and officials from the morning of 8th July 2023 until noon of 15th July 2023. The organizers will have a reception booth near Itanagar Railway Station and Itanagar Bus Stand to welcome all teams upon their arrival, or upon prior intimation from the states. The nearest airport is Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar.

Eligibility: Boxers born between 1st January 2007 and 31st December 2008 are eligible to participate. Entries will be accepted based on the Entry by Number and Entry by Name format enclosed, duly signed by the President/Secretary of the affiliated unit of the Boxing Federation of India. All boxers must have their original birth certificate and record book, with a photocopy of the original birth certificate to be produced during the weigh-in and medical examination.

Competition format: The championship will follow a format of three (3) rounds of two (2) minutes each, with a one (1) minute rest between rounds. The International Boxing Association’s (IBA) 10-point must scoring system will be followed. The championship will be conducted in accordance with the IBA/BFI AOB Technical & Competition Rules.

Entry Fee: An entry fee of Rs. 1,000/- in cash must be paid to the representative of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).

In an exciting development, a formidable arm wrestling team comprising 45 members from Arunachal Pradesh is gearing up to participate in the highly anticipated 45th National Arm Wrestling Championship. The team, under the leadership of Pakjar Taipodia, President of the All Arunachal Pradesh Arm Wrestling Association (AAPAWA), departed from their hometown to Jammu & Kashmir, where the championship will take place in Srinagar from May 22 to May 26.

The selection of athletes for this prestigious national event was based on their exceptional performances in the 23rd Open State Level Arm Wrestling Championship held in Basar, located in the Leparada district, back in February of this year. The competitors showcased their remarkable skills and strength, proving themselves worthy of representing Arunachal Pradesh on the national stage.

In preparation for the championship, the arm wrestling team underwent an intensive week-long training camp in the state capital. Under the expert guidance of President Pakjar Taipodia, the athletes honed their techniques and focused on enhancing their physical prowess. Day 3 of MSL 2023: Umrit SC, Mulait United Shine

The third day of the Meghalaya State League 2023 brought thrilling action to the football enthusiasts of Shillong. Umrit SC and Mulait United emerged victorious in their respective matches on Monday, showcasing their skill and determination on the field.

The match between Umrit SC and Seng Samla Laitryngew at the MFA Turf was a true spectacle for the fans. The game ended with a 3-1 victory in favor of Umrit SC. Khimlang Thangkhiew opened the scoring for Umrit after a series of intense moments in the box. Dapborlang Nongrum, defending the Laitryngew goal, made a remarkable save by hooking a shot off his own crossbar. However, Thangkhiew seized the opportunity and found the back of the net with his second attempt, leaving Nongrum helpless.

Wanroyshang Sangma showcased his brilliance by scoring two goals for Umrit SC. His first goal came just before halftime, as he skillfully maneuvered up the left flank and struck the ball past the keeper. In the second half, Sangma secured his brace with a simple tap-in. In Jowai, the Mulait United team turned the tables on Youth Club Pdengkarong in Group B. Marshial Nongrum’s well-executed cross set up Wanbor Langshiang for the opening goal in the 28th minute. However, Bing Chyrmang equalized for Youth Club Pdengkarong just four minutes later with a tap-in from Wardas Dkhar’s cross. Wantiwjune Buam sealed the victory for Mulait United with a goal in the 53rd minute, and the team successfully defended their lead until the final whistle.

Arunachal Pradesh Wushu players have brought glory to India by securing remarkable medals in the prestigious Moscow Star Wushu Championship 2023, held in Russia from May 3rd to 8th. The Indian girls’ team, consisting of participants from the Khelo India Women’s leagues held throughout the year, displayed exceptional skill and determination, earning a total of 10 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals across various categories in both Sanda (Fight) and Taolu events.

The achievements of the Indian girls were outstanding, with each medal contributing to their success. Mercy Ngaimong, an accomplished wushu player from Arunachal Pradesh, secured a silver medal in the Senior Girls category. Additionally, Mepung Lamu won a bronze medal in the Senior Girls category of the Taolu event, while Neyman Wangsu clinched another bronze medal in the Senior Girls category for Sanda. Onilu Tega showcased her prowess by winning the gold medal in the 48 Kg Senior Girls Sanda category, adding to India’s impressive medal tally.

Recognizing the extraordinary accomplishments of these talented athletes, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) organized a felicitation ceremony. Deputy Director Generals of SAI, Ekta Vishnoi and Shiv Sharma, bestowed honor upon the medal winners, commending their exceptional performances at the Moscow Wushu Stars Championship.

Pooja Kadian, a revered Wushu athlete and one of the coaches of the Indian Wushu team, expressed her delight and gratitude towards the Government for sponsoring the trip. She highlighted the significance of this opportunity for the athletes, emphasizing that in previous years, they had to bear the expenses themselves. Pooja, who herself achieved the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2018 and became the first woman gold medalist in the Wushu World Championships (2017), emphasized the importance of platforms like Khelo India in uplifting women in sports. She encouraged more girls to participate and seize the chance to perform on the highest stage.

Meghalaya State League 2023: Rangdajied United FC Triumphs in Opening Match

The Meghalaya State League 2023 kicked off with a bang on Thursday, May 11, with an electrifying opening ceremony that set the tone for the exciting football festival. Rangdajied United FC and Ñiawasa United faced off in the first match of the season, with Rangdajied claiming a convincing 2-0 victory over their opponents.

The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of Shakliar Warjri, the Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, and Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla. Shylla expressed his appreciation for the fans, stating that sports cannot exist without their passionate support. He encouraged everyone to continue supporting their favorite teams, win or lose.

The Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, Warjri, expressed his pride in the quality of football in Meghalaya and announced that the government would upgrade the stadium infrastructure in the near future. He hoped that the detailed project report would be prepared soon so that work could begin as soon as possible.

As for the match itself, Rangdajied United FC made their intentions clear from the beginning, launching strong attacks and attempting to take control of the game. Although Niaw Wasa United fought hard, they were unable to break down the Rangdajied defence and find a way to score.

In the 34th minute, Rangdajied’s Wanlamsuk Nongkhlaw scored the opening goal of the match, converting a penalty that was awarded for a handball. In the second half, Damehun Syih extended Rangdajied’s lead, scoring the second goal of the match in the 60th minute.
