Model Super League 7-A-Side Football Tournament Returns to Model Village, Naharlagun for the 2nd Edition
The 2nd Edition of the Model Super League 7-A-Side Football Tournament will be hosted by Team Model Super League in Model Village, Naharlagun. This tournament, which follows the 6th Edition of the Model Super League, aims to promote a sporting culture and encourage a healthy lifestyle among the youth through football. Our motto, “Say no to drugs,” reflects our commitment to combating drug abuse and redirecting the youth’s focus towards football, showcasing their potential talent while keeping them engaged.
MSL 2022 Winner
This year, the tournament will feature 32 participating teams, each with a squad of 12 members. All matches will take place at the Mes Que Champions Arena in Model Village, Naharlagun, and will be held under lights during the evening. A total of 63 matches will be played, starting with a league format that divides the 32 teams into 8 pools of 4 teams each. The top two teams from each pool, based on points, will advance to the round of 16, followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals, and ultimately, the final. The opening match is scheduled for June 18, 2023, with the final set to take place on July 6, 2023.

In terms of match duration, all league, round of 16, and quarterfinal matches will consist of 20-minute halves with a 5-minute break. The semifinals will have 25-minute halves with a 10-minute break, while the final will feature 30-minute halves with a 10-minute break. Each team will have 7 players on the field, along with 5 substitutes and 2 officials on the reserve bench. Rolling substitutions will be allowed, and all matches will be played in accordance with the laws of the game established by the International Football Association Board and published by FIFA, subject to any modifications by the Organizing Committee.
Empowering Arunachal Pradesh’s Elite Athletes: Directorate of Sports and GoSports Foundation Conduct Successful Workshop
Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh – The Directorate of Sports, in collaboration with the GoSports Foundation, successfully organized a two-day education workshop from 13th to 14th June 2023 to support athletes enrolled in the Arunachal Pradesh Elite Development Programme. This initiative, launched in 2020, aims to foster the holistic growth of athletes from Arunachal Pradesh and nurture their potential to become future Olympians and international athletes.
The workshop commenced on the 13th of June with an enthusiastic gathering of aspiring athletes from the program. The athletes were warmly welcomed by the GoSports Foundation’s team, who emphasized the program’s significance in shaping the future of sports in the state. The athletes were praised for their commitment and dedication to their chosen sports.
During the workshop, Ms. Divya Purushottam, a Nutritionist Expert, and Mr. Bhaskar Borah, an S&C Expert, conducted physical tests such as body composition analysis and power breath tests. Additionally, they led strength and conditioning sessions, including sports-specific drills and power-generating techniques. These activities were designed to evaluate the athletes’ fitness levels and identify areas for improvement. Customized training programs were created for each athlete, focusing on strength, endurance, agility, and overall physical conditioning. The athletes actively participated in these sessions, recognizing the importance of proper conditioning in achieving their sporting goals.
On the 14th of June, the workshop continued with a session led by the nutritionist, who discussed the results of the body composition analysis and power breath tests with each athlete individually. She highlighted the role of a well-balanced diet in an athlete’s performance and overall well-being. Valuable insights were provided regarding proper nutrition, meal planning, and strategies to optimize energy levels and recovery. The athletes engaged actively, gaining valuable knowledge on maintaining peak physical health through appropriate dietary practices. Simultaneously, the S&C trainer conducted personalized training sessions with the athletes, aiming to understand their physical abilities and educate them on recovery and injury prevention specific to their respective sports.
During the workshop, Shri Tadar Appa, Director of Sports, AP, felicitated several athletes supported under the Elite Athlete Development Program for their exceptional performances in the FY 2022-23. The awarded athletes and their accomplishments include Golom Tinku (Weightlifting) – 61kg category; Bronze Medal in Youth Asian Championship 2023; Albenia Youth Nationals 2022, Nagercoil; Gold medal, Charu Pesi (Weightlifting) – 61kg category; 36th National Games, Gujarat 2023; Gold Medal, and Onilu Tega (Wushu) – 51kg category; 36th National Games, Gujarat 2023; Gold Medal Khelo India University Games, 2023, Madhya Pradesh; Gold medal Wushu Senior National Championship, Srinagar, 2023; Gold.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Tadar Appa expressed the government’s unwavering support for the development of sports in Arunachal Pradesh. He reiterated the government’s commitment to uplifting the state’s sporting ecosystem and creating Olympians and international athletes from the region. The government pledged financial assistance and training support to nurture and empower athletes across various sports categories. Shri Tadar Appa emphasized that the program, implemented by the GoSports Foundation, aims to bridge gaps between academies and athletes by providing interventions to help athletes reach their full potential.
The Director of Sports expressed his satisfaction with the successful execution of the two-day workshop and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to providing world-class training and support to athletes. The workshop’s comprehensive approach, focusing on nutrition and strength & conditioning, has laid a strong foundation for the athlete development program. It has further strengthened the government’s determination to create a conducive environment for sporting excellence in Arunachal Pradesh.

Semifinals Set for the Chief Minister’s State Level U-12 Football Tournament 2023
The Chief Minister’s State Level U-12 Football Tournament 2023 kicked off at SAI STC Shillong, Nehu Campus, Mawlai Mawkyrnroh in June. Organized by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, the tournament will run until the 16th of June, 2023. The Tournament has witnessed fierce competition among young football enthusiasts from all 12 districts in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. As the tournament enters its third day, the stage is set for the highly anticipated semifinal matches scheduled for tomorrow.
A total of 384 children have participated in this five-day tournament, showcasing their talent and passion for the beautiful game. With each passing day, the excitement has grown, and fans have been treated to some remarkable displays of skill and teamwork.
In the girls’ category, the first semifinal match will feature a clash between West Khasi Hills and East Khasi Hills. These two teams have displayed exceptional prowess throughout the tournament, and their encounter promises to be a thrilling battle on the field. The match is scheduled to kick off at 9 AM, providing an early dose of excitement for football enthusiasts.
Simultaneously, at 9 AM, the second girls’ semifinal will take place between East Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills. These talented teams have fought hard to reach this stage, and the contest is expected to be intense as they vie for a spot in the final.
In the boys’ category, the first semifinal will see a showdown between West Jaintia Hills and Eastern West Khasi Hills. Rising Karate Star from Arunachal, Miss Songio Jomin, Tragically Passes Away
Arunachal mourns the untimely demise of Miss Songio Jomin, a rising star in the International karate community. The 16-year-old athlete, hailing from Kra Daadi district, Arunachal Pradesh, met with a fatal accident on 5th June 2023, leaving the entire sports fraternity in shock and disbelief.
Miss Songio Jomin, an aspiring karate player, had already made a mark in the world of martial arts with her exceptional talent and dedication. Born on 3rd July 2007, she trained under the guidance of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) at the Training Centre in Naharlagun.
The tragic incident occurred when Miss Songio Jomin was on her way to school. Unfortunately, her scooty collided with a stationary truck near the Blackberry showroom at A-Sector, resulting in severe injuries. She was immediately rushed to Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Naharlagun, where SAI staff provided swift medical assistance.
Due to the critical nature of her injuries, she was referred to a renowned neurosurgeon at Dr. Damani Nursing Home in Dibrugarh, Assam, as advised by the doctors at TRIHMS. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Miss Songio Jomin tragically passed away on 13th June 2023 at Dr. Damani Nursing Home, leaving her family, friends, and the entire sports community in deep sorrow.
Throughout her short but impactful career, Miss Songio Jomin represented both India and Arunachal Pradesh in various prestigious championships, showcasing her immense talent and determination. Her notable achievements include:
• 2022- 6th International Karate Championship held at Kolkata, West Bengal (India) – Gold Medalist.
• 2023- All India Inter SAI Karate held at Imphal, Manipur – Bronze Medalist.
• 2022- AKA sub-junior & Cadet State level Karate cum pre Silver Jubilee Celebration. Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh – Bronze Medalist.
• 2022- 1st AKA Karate Premier League held at Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh – Silver Medalist.
The young athlete’s dedication, hard work, and exceptional talent had brought her significant recognition at a young age. Experience: A minimum of 3 years of work experience as a physiotherapist, including at least 1 year of experience with sports academies/institutions.

YOUNG PROFESSIONAL (1 Vacancy, Not Reserved):

Educational Qualifications: Candidates should have passed 10+2 from a recognized board and possess a certificate course or skill development program in Masseur/Masseuse/Massage Therapy/Sports Masseur/Masseuse from a recognized institution.

The Meghalaya State League 2023 (MSL 2023)is heating up as the semifinal draw took place on Monday. Debutants Mawlai will face Khliehmawlieh Youth Club, while Rangdajied United will clash with defending champions Shillong Lajong.
The semifinals will be played on a home-and-away basis, with the first leg on June 10 and the second leg on June 13. The grand finale will take place on June 17 at the First Ground, Polo, in Shillong.
Mawlai has been impressive in their first season, winning all five matches in Group A. They will face Khliehmawlieh, the only non-Shillong club in the semifinals, hoping to cause an upset.
Rangdajied, who topped Group B, will seek revenge against Lajong, the 2019 runners-up, in a double-headed replay of the MSL 2019 final.
