NIAPA Gears Up for 5th Edition of TT Championship

The Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts (NIAPA) has officially announced that the 5th NIAPA Northeast Open Table Tennis Championship will be held from December 18 to 21 at the NIAPA Mini Stadium in Chümoukedima.

According to a press release issued by NIAPA, the annual championship aims to boost the growth of table tennis in Nagaland while providing state paddlers with an opportunity to compete against top players from across the Northeast. This year’s edition will feature a wide range of categories, including Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Under-21, Veteran Doubles, Best Duo, and Team Events.

With an impressive total prize pool of Rs. 6 lakh, the tournament stands among the highest-paying table tennis events in the country, drawing strong interest from elite paddlers across the region.

NIAPA managing director A. K. Yhome stated that the academy remains committed to strengthening the foundation of table tennis in the state by fostering competitive exposure and encouraging the sport’s growth. She added that the championship reflects NIAPA’s long-term vision of uplifting sports while furthering its broader mission of nurturing young talent across various disciplines.

The four-day event will commence with the Veteran category, followed by the Team Event, Under-21, and individual matches. All finals are scheduled to take place on December 21.

This edition will also introduce a new category—Best Duo, aimed at highlighting local talent from Nagaland. The top pair from the state will receive Rs. 15,000, while the second-place duo will earn Rs. 12,000, and the semifinalists Rs. 4,000 each.

Prize Structure Across Categories:

  • Team Event: Rs. 1,00,000 (1st), Rs. 50,000 (2nd)

  • Men’s Singles: Rs. 25,000 (1st), Rs. 15,000 (2nd), Rs. 5,000 (semifinalists)

  • Women’s Singles: Rs. 20,000 (1st), Rs. 12,000 (2nd), Rs. 4,000 (semifinalists)

  • Men’s Doubles: Rs. 30,000 (1st), Rs. 20,000 (2nd), Rs. 5,000 (semifinalists)

  • Women’s Doubles: Rs. 25,000 (1st), Rs. 15,000 (2nd), Rs. 5,000 (semifinalists)

  • Mixed Doubles: Rs. 30,000 (1st), Rs. 20,000 (2nd), Rs. 5,000 (semifinalists)

  • U-21 (Men): Rs. 15,000 (1st), Rs. 10,000 (2nd), Rs. 4,000 (semifinalists)

  • U-21 (Women): Rs. 10,000 (1st), Rs. 7,000 (2nd), Rs. 3,000 (semifinalists)

  • Veteran Doubles: Rs. 15,000 (1st), Rs. 12,000 (2nd), Rs. 4,000 (semifinalists)

Additional recognitions such as Best Naga Player of the Day will also be presented during the championship.
