The athletes of Northeast India are making a powerful statement at the 7th Khelo India Youth Games 2025 as the region collectively clinched 14 medals so far, with Manipur emerging as the frontrunner.
Manipur Dominates in Sepak Takraw
Manipur delivered a stunning performance in Sepak Takraw, securing 2 Gold medals in both the Boys’ and Girls’ events. The state now holds a total of 6 medals, underscoring its strong sporting tradition and commitment to excellence in indigenous sports.
Assam’s Janonjoy Jyoti Hazarika Swims to Gold
Assam added to the medal tally through a spectacular performance by Janonjoy Jyoti Hazarika, who clinched Gold in the Boys’ 100m Swimming event. Earlier he won Gold in 50 m swimming event. Assam’s medal count rises to 3—a testament to the rising talent pool in aquatic sports.
Arunachal Pradesh Opens Medal Account with 2 Bronze in Judo
Arunachal Pradesh marked its presence with two Bronze medals in Judo, both in the male categories:

In the -66 kg category, Tersu Tali put on an impressive show. A former trainee of Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy and now training at SAI NCOE Shillong, Tali delivered dominant wins against Jharkhand and Kerala. Despite a narrow semifinal loss to Uttar Pradesh, he bounced back to defeat Meghalaya in the Bronze medal match. This victory is historic as it marks Arunachal’s first-ever medal in the -66 kg Judo category at the Khelo India Youth Games.

In the -60 kg category, Taba Titung opened with a strong win over Telangana. Although he was edged out by Maharashtra in a closely fought Golden Score round, he was awarded the Bronze following a walkover from his injured opponent from Bihar.
Meghalaya, Nagaland & Tripura Join the Tally

Devraj Mohapatra brought home Meghalaya’s first medal, securing Bronze in the Recurve Individual Archery (Men’s) event.
