Sports Department of Arunachal Pradesh Launches ASMITA CITY League for KISCE & KICs

The Department of Sports, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, officially launched the ASMITA CITY League today at the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA). The League will feature competitions in Judo, Archery, Weightlifting, and Badminton between the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) and the District Level Khelo India Centres (KIC).

The event commenced at 9:30 AM with a formal ceremony attended by distinguished guests, including Shri Tadar Appa, Director of Sports, GoAP; Shri Likha Vidha, Principal of SLSA; Shri Nada Apa, Sports Officer of the Headquarters; and Shri Rahul Mipi, Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Judo Association, along with officials from the Department of Sports, KISCE, and SLSA.

Addressing the participants, Shri Tadar Appa emphasized the importance of the ASMITA League, which stands for Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action. This central government initiative aims to promote grassroots sports development while ensuring inclusivity and equity.

Director Appa also praised the achievements of women athletes in Arunachal Pradesh, highlighting the stellar performances of female students from SLSA, who have won back-to-back medals at the National Games. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to enhance women’s participation in sports by providing proper coaching and training, as well as ensuring a balanced gender representation across all KICs with a 50:50 male-to-female athlete ratio.

Asmita City League

The ASMITA City League will be held according to the following schedule for KISCE and KIC competitions:

Schedule for ASMITA City League:

INTER KISCE:

  • Judo: March 15-16, 2025
  • Archery: March 18, 2025
  • Weightlifting: March 20, 2025

INTER KIC:

  • Badminton (Papum Pare): March 22-23, 2025
  • Weightlifting (Govt. Secondary School, Itanagar): March 21, 2025
  • Archery (Lower Subansiri): March 19, 2025

All events will take place at Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA).

The ASMITA League is poised to be a significant step forward in advancing sports culture in Arunachal Pradesh, with a focus on both excellence and gender equality.
