The Meghalaya State League (MSL) defending champions, Shillong Lajong, made an impressive start to their title defense as they crushed Lumdiengngan with an astonishing 10-0 victory in Group C at the MDSA Ground in Mawkyrwat today.
In what turned out to be the most one-sided match in terms of margin of victory this season, Shillong Lajong’s striker, Babysunday Marngar, stole the spotlight by registering an unbelievable five goals (25′, 31′, 42′, 46′, 49′). The reigning champions dominated the game from start to finish, with additional goals contributed by Wadajied Kynsai Ryngkhlem (4′), Pynche Tyngkan (16′), Atlanson Kharmaw (70′), Ioanis Suchen (77′), and Hardy Cliff Nongbri (90’+2).
Shillong Lajong’s opening fixture was delayed due to their successful campaign in the All India Football Federation’s Second Division League. However, their delayed start didn’t hamper their form as they demonstrated their dominance and showcased their intent to retain the MSL title.
In other matches, Langsning wreaked havoc on Umrit with a crushing 9-1 victory in Group A at the MFA Turf in Shillong. Dauruhipaia Pale (3′, 45′), Arnesius Marwein (5′), Kordor Dkhar (12′, 42′), and Kynsaibor Lhuid (24′) were among the goal scorers for Langsning, with Federick Wahlang adding another goal in the 52nd minute. Umrit managed to salvage a consolation goal when Wanroyshang Sangma scored in the 68th minute.
Meanwhile, in Jowai, Ladthadlaboh secured a 2-0 victory against Mulait United in Group B at the Kiang Nangbah Stadium. Stephanson Pale opened the scoring for Ladthadlaboh in the 40th minute with a well-converted penalty, and Nickyboy Swer extended their lead just seconds into the second half. The win propelled Ladthadlaboh to the top of Group B with 10 points, while Mulait United’s winning streak came to an end.
The match between Khliehmawlieh Youth Club and Selsella Sports Association in Group D ended in a captivating 2-2 draw at the Chandmari Ground in Tura. Maldrin Marak (4′, 45′) scored both goals for Selsella, while Kyntiew Marthong (6′) and an own goal brought about by a cross from D. Marngar led to Khliehmawlieh’s equalizers.
The draw leaves Group D wide open, with Wasa FC and Khliehmawlieh both sitting on 7 points after three games. The highly anticipated clash between these two sides could have a significant impact on the group standings.
Tomorrow’s action will feature a single match in Group B, with Rangdajied United taking on Rymbai Iawpynsing in Jowai at 2:30 PM. Meanwhile, Groups A, C, and D will enjoy a rest day as the teams regroup and prepare for their upcoming fixtures in the Meghalaya State League.
