Sikkim Boxer Jayant Dagar Impresses Locally and Internationally, Clinches Bronze Medals
Sikkim boxer Jayant Dagar has been making waves in the boxing world with his outstanding performances. At the 6th Youth Men’s National Championships, Jayant confirmed at least a bronze medal for Sikkim after a dominant victory in the quarter-finals. Competing in the 54kg category, he secured a commanding 5-0 win against Shrinivash Lawani from Goa.
Unfortunately, the journey came to an end for Tanam Limboo, the only other Sikkim pugilist to reach the quarter-finals. Limboo put up a spirited fight in the 48kg category but was defeated by Tanmay Kalantre of Maharashtra in a unanimous decision.
Jayant’s achievements are not limited to the national level. In the Asian Junior Boxing Championship held in Amman, Jordan from 3rd to 15th March 2022, he clinched a bronze medal in the 54kg weight category. This championship witnessed the participation of 355 boxers from 21 nations, including some of the best talents from countries such as India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, and Kazakhstan, among others.
Jayant’s success is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and talent. Moreover, Services continued their dominant run at the 6th Youth Men’s National Championships, with multiple boxers securing comprehensive victories. Thirteen boxers from Services claimed wins on the fourth day of the tournament, demonstrating their prowess in the ring. Boxers from Haryana also had an impressive showing, with nine securing medals in various weight categories.
The championship, which featured 337 budding boxers from across the country, has been a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and make their mark at the national level. As the tournament draws to a close, the semi-final matches promise intense clashes as boxers compete for a chance to claim the coveted title.
