Nagaland’s Taekwondo Medal Winners Felicitated and Sports Scholarship Programme Launched

Felicitation of Medal Winners in Taekwondo and Launch of Scholarship Programme Held in Kohima

The Government of Nagaland, through the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, held a special felicitation ceremony for the medal winners in Taekwondo, along with the launch of a scholarship programme for meritorious sports persons and remedial classes for academy trainees. The event took place at Hall A, I G Stadium, Kohima on April 11 and was graced by the presence of Keoshu, Advisor Youth Resources & Sports, as the special guest.

In his address, Keoshu congratulated the medal winners and urged other trainees to work hard with dedication to achieve similar success. He emphasized the importance of discipline and commitment in the pursuit of excellence in sports and encouraged the trainees to aim higher and surpass their own limitations. He also highlighted the government’s keen interest in promoting sports as a promising avenue for career-building and mentioned the upcoming incorporation of sports, music, arts, and other vocational fields in the state’s new education policy, which would benefit the young generation.

Akhumla Chuba, Director of Youth Resources & Sports, shared about the department’s initiatives, including the scholarship programme for meritorious sports persons in different categories, and the provision of remedial classes for academy trainees to cover missed-out subjects. These efforts aim to provide support and encouragement to talented athletes in Nagaland and help them excel in their respective sports.

Visabei-u Peseyie, Teakwondo Coach, also gave a brief profile of Teakwondo in Nagaland State, highlighting the achievements and progress made in the sport.

The felicitation ceremony recognized the outstanding performance of the following medal winners in national Taekwondo championships: Shiusuthong Tikhir, who won Gold under the 23 KG category, and Shiuthong, who won Silver under the 25 KG category in the 36th National Sub-junior Taekwondo Championship held at Cuttack, Odisha. In addition, Manong Konyak won Bronze under 41 Kg, Thongti Thonger won Bronze under 45 Kg, and Longkhon Phom won Bronze under 57 Kg category in the 5th Cadet- under 14 years National Taekwondo Championship held at Kota, Rajasthan.

The felicitation ceremony was a proud moment for the medal winners and a motivating factor for other aspiring athletes in Nagaland. It highlighted the government’s commitment towards promoting sports and supporting talented athletes to achieve greater heights in their sporting careers. The launch of the scholarship programme and remedial classes for academy trainees further emphasized the government’s efforts to provide necessary support and encouragement to the sports community in Nagaland.
